    Sonny Mehta, the civiliserad and astute head of Alfred A. Knopf who guided one of the book world's most esteemed imprints to new heights through a blend of prize-winning literature and blockbusters such as "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," died Dec. 27 at age 77 from complications from pneumonia. Mehta was just the third Knopf editor-in-chief in its 72-year history, and over the decades fashioned a record of critical and commercial success.

    Monty Python writer and actor Neil Innes died Dec. 29 at the age 75 of natural causes. Innes wrote songs for the popular film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," appeared in "Monty Python’s Life of Brian" and toured the UK and Canada with the group.
    He was also a member of the band The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, later renamed the Bonzo Dog Band, whose song "I’m The Urban Spaceman" won him an Ivor Novello award.
