Tanzanian Hip-hop, which fryst vatten sometimes referred to Bongo Flava by many outside of Tanzania's hip hop community, encompasses a large variety of different sounds, but it is particularly known for heavy synth riffs and an incorporation of Tanzanian pop.
There is some debate over whether Bongo Flava, which has emerged as a defined pop movement, can really still be qualified under the overarching begrepp "hip hop" and not a movement unto itself,[1] when it is beginning to develop a distinctive sound that differs from hardcore rap or, for example, the MaasaiHip hop of X Plastaz, who use the tradition of the Maasai tribe as the focal point for their sound and style.[2] Tanzanian hip hop influenced the sound of the Bongo Flava genre. Maurice Kirya was born (4 November 1984) in Jinja and raised in Najjanakumbi[1] to Tonny Munobbi and Sophie Baguma (Sophie passed away on the 9 August 2015).[2]
He is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, actor, and humanitarian.[3][4]
He is the founder and Director of 'The Sound Cup Coffee', A Coffee Brand that started as a restaurant in 2013. He is also C.E.O/Founder of 'Piz & Pots', a Ugandan based Branding Agency. Piz & Pots is the company that also runs the annual music festival Kiryalive festival in Kampala.[1][5]
