Television Walt Disney was one of the first of the major movie producers to go into television. He started with Christmas specials in 1950 (One Hour in Wonderland) and 1951 (Walt Disney Christmas Show), and then began his regular series on October 27, 1954. Disney was persuaded to begin the series on ABC because he knew he could use it to help sell his movies, and, especially, because ABC offered to advance money to help him build Disneyland park. The evening series remained on the air for 29 seasons, airing on all three networks during this period. This made it the longest-running weekly prime-time show of all time. While there were a few other series during the first three decades, notably the Mickey Mouse Club and Zorro, beginning in the 1980s, Disney became a mainstream producer of series for television.
The complete list of Disney television series follows:
1. Disneyland [ABC] 10/27/54 – 9/3/58
Walt Disney Presents [ABC] 9/12/58 – 9/17/61

The 1950s saw the release of the classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Shaggy Dog—first in a series of wacky comedies—and a popular TV series about the legendary hero Zorro. In the 1960s came Audio-Animatronics® technology, pioneered with Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland and then four shows at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, and Mary Poppins—perhaps the culmination of all Walt Disney had learned during his long movie-making career. But the ’60s also brought the end of an era: Walt Disney died December 15, 1966.
Plans that Walt left behind carried the Company for a number of years under the supervision of Roy Disney. The Jungle Book in 1967 and The Aristocats in 1970 showed that the Company could still make animated classics, and The Love Bug in 1969 was the highest-grossing film of the year. Disney began work on educational films and materials in a big way
