    Kwamena Ahwoi (born 13 October )[1][2] is a Ghanaian academic and politician, who served as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development from to in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, during the reign of Jerry Rawlings. He also briefly served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in , and was acting minister in that department during much of the s.

    Early life and education

    He was born on Saturday 13 October at South Suntreso, Kumasi. He has eight siblings, among them is Kwasi Ahwoi and Ato Ahwoi.[3] He has two brothers and five sisters. He is a Fante Sefwi and the fourth child of eight children. His mother died in January at the age of 97 but his father died when he was still a young boy.[4]

    He had his upbringing in Kumasi. He pursued his 'O level' at the Okuapeman School at Akropong Akuapem. He later continued to Opoku Ware School.[5]

    A book that chronicles the life story of the celebrated Ahwoi and Adu-Gyamfi family titled &#;House No.D13 South Suntresu Kumasi,&#; was launched in Accra on Tuesday.

    The pages Ahwoi and Adu-Gyamfi Siblings&#; Collective Biography book was co-authored by the eight siblings namely Ato Ahwoi, Kwesi Ahwoi, Kwamena Ahwoi (all renowned Ghanaian politicians), Mrs Ama Adoma Bartels-Kodwo, Mrs Ama Twum, Mrs Efua Bram-Larbi and Mrs Agnes Appiagyei-Danquah.

    The book chronicles the life stories of eight of the children of Madam Maye Charlotte Hudson also known as Mrs Ahwoi, particularly the three brothers, Ato, Kwesi and Kwamena, who played prominent roles in Ghana&#;s political history as well their five siblings who also shared interesting childhood memories.

    It shared stories of the remarkable togetherness and mutual support system that enabled the children of House No.D13, South Suntresu, Kumasi to overcome the many hurdles growing up as well as their remarkable political journeys.

    Ato Ahwoi will receive an honor from the Ghana Football Association for his immense role played in the development of Club football in the country.
