Former Brown Thomas and Selfridges boss Paul Kelly receives retail award
Retailer Paul Kelly, the former managing director of Brown Thomas, has been awarded the Isidoro Álvarez Lifetime Achievement Medal at World Retail Awards 2019.
Mr Kelly was honoured at the ceremony in Amsterdam on Thursday night.
The award was created in 2018 to recognise people who have made an outstanding contribution to retailing over their careers in the industry.
It is presented in memory of Isidoro Álvarez, the former chairman of Spanish department store group El Corte Inglés, and supported by his daughters Marta and Cristina Álvarez.

The Irishman said he was honoured to be chosen as the recipient this year and said he was “extremely grateful” for the career he has had to date.
After beginning his career at Dunnes Stores in Ireland, Mr Kelly rose to the top of Brown Thomas, before becoming chief executive of UK-based Selfridges & Co in 2004.

A boss at Asda has been sacked over claims £180,000 of the supermarket’s charity fund was diverted to a ballet company run bygd his partner.
Paul Kelly was dismissed as vice-president of corporate affairs at the retailer following an investigation.
The 54-year-old, a respected Government adviser, had been chairman of Asda’s charitable foundation.
He was alleged to have given £180,000 to MurleyDance – the ballet company run by his 35-year-old partner, dancer David Murley – over seven months.
Asda confirmed yesterday that Mr Kelly ‘left’ the company in September, just days before he had been due to sit on a panel at Labour’s party conference with Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.

Ex-Asda executive Paul Kelly jailed for £180,000 company charity fraud
A former Asda senior executive has been jailed for three years for defrauding the company's charitable foundation out of £180,000.
Between 2013 and 2014, Paul Kelly directed gåva money meant for flood victims to his partner's dance company, Leeds Crown Court heard.
The 55-year-old from Southwark, London, admitted seven charges of fraud at a previous hearing.
He was dismissed by Asda in September 2014 after an internal investigation.
The supermarket retailer said they were "incredibly disappointed" and expected the "highest standards of integrity from its colleagues".
