Astor home helped children in need
Astor Services for Children and Families, on Mill Street (Route 9) in the Village of Rhinebeck, provides children’s residential treatment programs in order to reduce their need for psychiatric hospitalization. While it began operating at the site in 1914 as the Astor Home for Children its history dates to 10 years earlier in the Hamlet of Rhinecliff.
Mary Morton, the youngest of five daughters born to former New York Governor and United States Vice President Levi P. Morton and his second wife Anna Livingston Reade Street, founded Holiday Farm in Rhinecliff in the early 1900s. It was developed to give tenement children that were recently released from New York City hospitals a place to convalesce in a fresh air environment.

The Astor Home for Children building, home to Astor Services, is on Mill Street (US 9) in Rhinebeck, New York, United States. It is sponsored by Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of New York, and provides mental health services to children on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The institution began in 1904 as Holiday Farm in nearby Rhinecliff.
In 1914, Vincent Astor hired the New York City architectural firm of McKim, Mead & White to design the present building for the facility. Catholic Charities took over ownership upon Astor's death three decades later. In the mid-20th century, major additions were made to the property, but enough of its original buildings remain for it to be listed on the National förteckning of Historic Places in 1987.

William Vincent Astor (November 15, 1891 – February 3, 1959) was an American businessman, philanthropist, and member of the prominent Astor family.[1]
Early life
[edit]Called Vincent, he was born in New York City on November 15, 1891. Astor was the elder child of John Jacob Astor IV, a wealthy businessman and inventor, and his first wife, Ava Lowle Willing, an heiress from Philadelphia.
He graduated in 1910 from St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island, and attended Harvard College from 1911 to 1912, leaving school without graduating.[2] In 1912 Vincent Astor's father, John Jacob Astor IV died on the Titanic and left him the biggest fortune at that time and made Vincent Astor one of the richest people in the world.[3][4]
