Model-turned-actor Sarika won the hearts of many with her glamourous look and powerful acting. But mid-career, she took a break from the showbiz to resolve some family issues. After three years of her marriage, she recently returned to acting and has not taken much time at all to get busy with Eid plays shoots. The artiste spoke to The Daily Star about her return to the media. Excerpts:

You are coming back after a rather long break. What's it like?

Sarika: I'm feeling very good. It's really a different feeling because this is my world. It seems to me that I have found myself once again and returned home. I took a break for my family and child, but I'm now very happy to be back in front of the camera.

How was the experience of your first work on this second run?

Sarika: I was nervous when I stood in front of the camera for the first shot after three years. It was the play “Ami Tumi” directed by Mostofa Kamal Raj.

Actor Sarika has opened up on taking a break of five years in her career, revealing that initially, she wanted it to be only for a year. In a new interview, she said that the break got extended due to the Covid-19 pandemic during which she worked in theatres. The actor revealed that during the pandemic-induced lockdown she ran out of money and working in theatres fetched her less than ₹3,000. Talking about her childhood getting chipped away one scene at a time, Sarika said, “For a normal child, losing parents is traumatic, and is an emotion they aren’t quite prepared for. On the other hand, child actors do these scenes when they are 5 or 6, and are rewarded with a biscuit or chocolate for acing it. Of course, you might not understand the gravity of the situation even then, but you have it inside you.” Adding to this stark reality of being a child actor, Kamal Haasan said, “As we grew up in that scenario, both our lives could have gone very wrong.”
