Anti-Boredom Book List
These are some of my favorite books that keep the mental leg of my table strong! I hope you find them encouraging, as well as fun to read. If you have a good book to recommend, please leave it in the comment section at the end of the page.
Out of the Silent Planet
This science-fiction novel is the first in C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy as it follows the abduction of Dr. Ransom. Ransom is taken by spaceship to Malacandra, (Mars), where he discovers that Thulcandra (Earth) has grown so corrupt that the Spiritual Being who controls his planet has cut it off from the other planets. Therefore, earth is called the silent planet. When Ransom lands on Malacandra, he escapes his captors and then faces the challenges of surviving the strange surroundings and inhabitants, as well as finding a way back to Earth.
I am not usually a science fiction fan, but this was not a science fiction story to me. Instead, it was a human story of kindness and redemption.

Its hard to wait.
Its harder to rest patiently for something you desperately want .
Thats why children shake the presents under the Christmas tree and grown-ups dip into their savings.
Its also why we so often doubt that God has things under control.
When circumstances require sacrifice I want the Lord to step in and fix them. I want my oändlig makt God to use a little of that power to man my life more bearable. And when He doesnt, Im more likely to call His character into question than to doubt my own motives.
Psalm 27 helps turn my heart back to truth:
13 [What, what would have become of me] had inom not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living!
14 Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.

This vs. That
On this episode of This vs. That, we explore the fascinating tension between fear of man and fear of God with special guest Ed Welch and guest co-host Jonathan Holmes, Executive Director of Fieldstone Counseling.
We trace Ed's journey of writing his influential book "When People Are Big and God Is Small," which began as a response to the codependency movement of the s. Through our conversation, we discover how Ed's perspective shifted from a sharp critique of cultural trends to a more pastoral approach as he began seeing these themes everywhere in Scripture.
We discuss the evolution from codependency to today's independent mindset, and explore how the fear of God isn't about being afraid, but rather about awe and reverence that draws us closer to Him. Through anställda stories and biblical wisdom, we unpack what it means to love Jesus more than we love the approval of others.
