Robert Fulton was an American engineer and inventor born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, who is credited with the invention of the steamboat. Born in 1765, Fulton was inspired by William Henry, who shared with him James Watts' steam engine design. Fulton's steam engine made a significant impact on travel and shipping throughout the world and revolutionized oversea tradebefore his death in 1815.
