Gayatri Devi[1] (born Princess Gayatri Devi of Cooch Behar; 23 May − 29 July ) was the third Maharani consort of Jaipur from to through her marriage to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II.[2] Following her husband's signature for the Jaipur State to become part of the Union of India and her step-son's assumption of the title in , she was known as Maharani Gayatri Devi, Rajmata of Jaipur.
She was born in the Hindu royal family of Cooch Behar. Her father was Maharaja Jitendra Narayan of Cooch Behar in West Bengal, and her mother was the Maratha Princess, Indira Raje of Baroda, the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, and she was sister to Jagaddipendra Narayan, informally known as 'Bhaiya', who succeeded the

Gayatri Devi was also actively involved in politics. After independence when C Rajagopalachari formed the Swatantra Party in , she won set a world record of winning the maximum number of votes from Jaipur’s Lok Sabha seat. This showed the public’s love for her.
Also in the and elections, she was elected as a member of Lok Sabha from Jaipur parliamentary constituency on a Swatantra Party ticket.
Hard Times
Along with happiness, she also had to see tough times in her life. Her husband, Sawai man Singh bid adieu to the world quite early in Shortly after this, her son, Jagat Singh dies in due to excessive drinking. This completely broke her.
Gayatri Devi also spent some time in Tihar Jail during the Emergency imposed bygd Indira Gandhi. After her release from jail, she retired from politics.
